Employment Expectations for Part-Time Teachers

Background

Employment expectations of part-time teachers shall be applied fairly and consistently.

Procedures

  1. The following are expectations of part-time teachers and shall not include additional compensation:
    1. Part-time teachers are required to attend regularly scheduled staff meetings called by the Principal;
    2. Part-time teachers are required to be present at the school for parent-teacher interviews for an amount of time in the same proportion as in their contract Full Time Equivalency (FTE);
    3. Part-time teachers are required to work on organizational days for an amount of time in the same proportion as in their contract FTE; and
    4. Part-time teachers are required to attend professional development/ professional learning community days for an amount of time in the same proportion as in their contract FTE.
  2. Part-time teachers’ supervision time and extracurricular duties are to be proportional to their contract FTE.
  3. Part-time teachers who are required by their Principal to attend professional development/professional learning community days or parent-teacher interviews beyond the amount of time on their FTE shall receive additional compensation.
  4. Teachers with full-time continuing contracts who voluntarily accept an assignment of less than one (1.0) FTE for a period of time of not more than one (1) full year shall revert to a one (1.0) FTE in the subsequent school year. Prior to May 1, teachers shall indicate in writing to the Superintendent of their commitment to return to a one (1.0) FTE position in the subsequent school year. Teachers who request and voluntarily accept an assignment of less than one (1.0) FTE for a period of time greater than one (1) full year shall relinquish their full-time continuing contract and be offered a part-time continuing contract.
  5. The Principal, in consultation with the teacher, shall decide which part of organizational days, parent – teacher interviews or professional development/professional learning community days the teacher is required to attend.
