Violence Threat Risk Assessment
How we respond to threats of violence - Violence Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA) Protocol.
The safety of NGPS students is a priority. Young people dealing with difficult situations and challenges they can’t resolve may resort to high risk behaviour which puts them and others in danger. Because we want to keep all students and schools safe, we are working with our community partners to respond to and support those students who may pose a risk.
As a Division, and in cooperation with other local school divisions, government, RCMP and community partners, NGPS administrators and leadership staff have completed intensive safety training through the Canadian Centre for Threat Assessment and Trauma Response.
Together, we have developed a prevention and intervention protocol to respond to situations in which students may be posing a threat to themselves or others. As always, our goal is to keep our students and schools safe and respond to threats in a proactive and coordinated manner that provides for a healthy and caring learning environment. The Whitecourt & Surrounding Area, Violence Threat Risk Assessment Community Protocol applies to all NGPS school communities.
