Beth Jager appointed Principal at Mayerthorpe Jr/Sr High, 2021-22

NGPS Superintendent Kevin Andrea is pleased to announce that Ms. Beth Jager has accepted the principalship at Mayerthorpe Jr/Sr High School, effective September 2021, following the retirement of current principal, Dafydd Thomas.

“Beth is an accomplished administrator with an impressive breadth of knowledge and experience in junior and senior high programming, administration and the MHS school community in particular,” said Andrea. “Her experience in the classroom, as an administrator and as a volunteer and advocate in the community make her an ideal fit for the position."

Ms. Jager began her educational career with Grande Yellowhead School Division where she taught a range of junior and senior high subjects, served in AISI and Inclusive Education facilitator roles and coached and supervised numerous extracurricular teams and activities. 

Ms. Jager joined Mayerthorpe Jr/Sr High as Assistant Principal and teacher in 2009, quickly demonstrating her commitment to student engagement and achievement through her work with dual credit programming, MHS's Health Care Aide program, high school re-design, summer boot camps, work experience options for students, professional development for staff and extracurricular athletics. 

An active member of the community and recipient of the Governor General Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers, Ms. Jager has been recognized for her work with various groups including Mayerthorpe's Youth Justice Committee, local 4H chapters and athletic associations. 

Ms. Jager shared, “I am very excited and honoured to take on the role of principal at Mayerthorpe Jr/Sr High School. I look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with the dedicated and talented MHS staff, as well as with the supportive and caring parents and community, for the success of each of our students. Together, we will further a culture of high student achievement and strong community relationships."

Ms. Jager holds a Bachelor of Physical Education, Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Alberta and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Calgary.
